It’s not much of a shock that lies are popping up in the Republican presidential nomination race. But in Michigan, Mitt Romney is telling one whopper of lie about the UAW, the auto bailout that saved two of the nation’s Big 3 car manufacturers and President Obama. In a nutshell, Romney says Obama should have let Chrysler and GM go bankrupt—that should win him a lot of votes in Michigan today—and Obama instead “gave the companies to the UAW.” Read more >>> Our greatest challenge as a labor movement is to build a stronger organization that will continue to address, and eventually reverse, the growing gap between the rich and the poor. We must develop the capacity to simultaneously organize, manage political campaigns, increase existing membership, develop strategic alliances and contest the domination of corporate interests that influence our governing bodies. This is not an easy task. We have to start with our own social vision, our own strategic plan. This is the first new charter that he been awarded in years and is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the affiliates and activists of the former Volusia/Flagler Chapter of the Central Florida AFL-CIO. This auspicious occasion illustrates the incredible growth and potential for Florida’s Labor Movement. Stacy Stepanovich, the President of the new CLC and one of the activists who helped create it said, “The affiliates of the Volusia/Flagler Central Labor Council are very excited about our new charter. For us this symbolizes the United Labor Movement coming home. Our affiliates look forward to the increased responsibility and accountability that accompanies such a great honor. We will continue to move forward in a bold and progressive manner that will benefit all working families in Volusia and Flagler counties and across the state. |
