National Call In for Healthcare
CWA Panama City members calling Congress during their lunch.
On July 28th, 2009, workers throughout the United States called their Congressional delegates to ensure Labor's three must haves with Healthcare are heard. From Jacksonville to Pensacola, workers in North Florida joined the mobilization efforts and took an active role by participating through their Central Labor Councils and Local Unions. In Jacksonville, members of the North Florida Central Labor Council and the North Florida Building Trades mobilized for a town hall on Healthcare the previous day, and a mobilization the evening of the national call in. By contacting their members, affiliates participated individually as well. In Gainesville, retirees and workers from the North Central Florida Central Labor Council took time to let their federal Representatives know that Working Families need quality, affordable Healthcare; and, a true public option. Members of ATU, IAM, OPEIU, CWA, UA, APWU, and Working America helped contact Congress. The Northwest Florida Federation of Labor was best represented by the Big Bend Labor Chapter in Tallahassee. Spending all day phonebanking, retirees and local union members contacted other union members to let them know about the efforts Labor is taking to bring real affordable Healthcare to each every American.
