Pensacola Employee Free Choice Act & Healthcare Information Campaign

Saturday, 7/11/2009, workers from Pensacola, FL, waved signs, spoke with the community, and distributed leaflets regarding Healthcare and the Employee Free Choice Act. From 10:00AM until noon, workers gathered in front of Home Depot on Davis Highway, and from 2:00PM until 4:00PM they reassembled after lunch to make a local grassroots statement against Walmart on Creighton Road.
Leaders from the Northwest Florida Federation of Labor successfully increased the visibility of their CLC while speaking to several members of the community. Vice President James Lingley said, "The Employee Free Choice Act and Healthcare Reform are the two single most important pieces of legislation for Labor since the National Labor Relations Act."
Members from IAM-AW, ATU, IBEW, Working America, OPEIU, and the Florida AFL-CIO combined their efforts to create a permanent mobilization structure by advocating the Employee Free Choice Act and Healthcare Reform to the public. By working together for Labor's issues, local unions demonstrated a combined measure of activity by which future actions can be built upon.
